Studio Discoverability Settings

We’ve been working for several months on some exciting new features that will help you connect with other musicians on JackTrip. Your studio dashboard now includes a “Looking for” discoverability setting. This will default to not looking for anyone, but you can change it to:

  • Looking for New Members (if you want to find other musicians to play with)
  • Looking for New Students (if you are a music educator, and want to find new students)

Indicating that you are looking for new people will soon make your studio discoverable on JackTrip.com without having to post public recordings.

You can now add tags to your studio to indicate which types of music you prefer, and which instruments you play. You may also want to review and update your studio’s description and image, and consider posting public recordings to build a richer profile.

Please update your settings now to get ready for exciting new features coming soon to JackTrip!

(Updated September 27th, 2024 to reflect the renaming from “Visibility” to “Discoverability” settings)

Faster Sessions

No one wants to wait for a new JackTrip session to be ready, and no one should have to. We started rolling out improvements to reduce session startup times in June. Since then, the average startup time has dropped from about 100 seconds to 70, and 95% of new sessions now start in under two minutes (down from about 3.3 minutes). This still varies quite a bit by location, and the slowest ones have seen the largest improvements. It’s progress that we’re proud of, but it’s only a start.

Today, we rolled out an update that eliminates the delay for closing sessions, and under certain conditions reduces startup time to under 20 seconds. I’ll spare you the details, but basically sessions will now start faster in locations that have more people using JackTrip. Help us make JackTrip faster by telling all your friends about it!

Free Tier Updates

JackTrip members on the “Free” tier can now start a maximum of 1 session per hour. You can still start up to 24 sessions per day, but this means you’ll have to take a 10 minute break if you exceed the 50 minute maximum duration. For as little as about $4 per month ($49 per year), you can now upgrade to our “Lite” subscription plan, which offers unlimited sessions of up to 3 hours each, as well as including HD video.

How do I search for users that are looking for other musicians?

I think they’re still working on it. But for now you can go to one of your studios and tap on setting tab. Then scroll down on the left side to set your status. I’ll try to post some screenshots in a bit.

updated: on the Studio Dashboard’s “Overview” page, left side, under “Steps to Success”, tap the “Set visibility settings”. Then you will see some options there.

The visibility settings are also available on the Studio Dashboard “Settings” tab. Scroll down to the bottom left side. (note: this setting is not in the studio’s audio settings.) You’ll need to be on the Studio Dashboard that runs in a browser.

When the possibilities to send and record multitrack channells?

Nice to hear from you @openaspace and thanks for your question.

Multi track recording is another popular feature request in the quest to provide daw-like functionality within the Jacktrip environment.

There hasn’t been any significant development that I know of but maybe @miked has more to share.

In the meantime, Jacktrip offers the option to use an app called JACK Audio as the Jacktrip backend setting, where multi track routing can be achieved.

Note that using JACK audio with Jacktrip is an unsupported option only for very advanced users and can be steep for some. Do an online search for tutorials for ‘using JACK with Jacktrip Virtual Studio’.

Stay tuned for future feature announcements!
