JackTrip version 1.7 is the last one that works on my setups

Confirmed JackTrip version 1.7 is the last working version.

Hi @ParkJames, are you saying that you are able to use JackTrip 1.7 today and it works fine for you? Are you using 1.7.0 or 1.7.1? Have you tried 1.8.0?

If so, this is new information and something I’d like to dig more into. It’s just extremely hard to reproduce without having your exact drivers and possibly the same computer and audio hardware. FWIW, we do regularly test across many different Windows systems with various hardware and ASIO drivers.

Perhaps I’ll look into ordering a UR22 audio interface… is it the UR22C model, or UR22mkII or other?

Thanks,
-Mike

I am using the last 1.7 version which is 1.7.1. I tried all the more recent versions and they all failed as described in the videos I have posted. I have both the UR22 and the UR 22 mkII, both of them behave identically when used with JackTrip so I don’t think there is any difference between them. I am using the Yamaha/Steinberg USB driver which is dated 2020. I have not tried the UR22C.

I can list my extra UR22 on eBay if you want to buy it for $55 + shipping

@ParkJames Yes, I’ll buy it! Would you please post the link here or DM me?

I recently fixed a crash bug in 1.10.1 involving ASIO device selection on Windows computers. I suspect you may be running into a different issue, but please give it a try if you have a chance.

For 2.0 (currently beta1), we upgraded the underlying audio library used by JackTrip (RtAudio 6). I also am working on revamping much of the code around it for the beta2 release. I would love to see whether or not this solves the UR22 issue, but it would certainly be easier if I had one in hand.

Thanks,
-Mike

I was able to track the problem down to the older UR22 models supporting a minimum buffer size of 512. JackTrip uses a default of 128, and from versions 1.8-1.10 was not doing a good job adjusting when the configured buffer size isn’t supported by the audio interface. It’s likely that other audio interfaces and drivers with the same limitations had similar problems.

This is now fixed in JackTrip 2.0.

Bam! Thank you for jumping on this. Like you said, it could have been the cause of problems with other interfaces and drivers, and so good to know that fixes were implemented in 2.0!

Nope. On my new Zenbook, with the new version 2.0, the JackTrip app
opens and doesn’t close immediately, but as soon as I try to do anything
it will close the app within 3 - 4 seconds. I clicked on Settings to see if it
was using my UA Lightning bolt interface and instead it says ā€œGeneric
ASIO driverā€ and there aren’t any other options. Hard to check on these
things when the app keeps closing so quickly. But it doesn’t close the app
if I don’t try to do anything with it. If I click on join, it will close the app.

Now on the regular laptop, which still has the version 1.7.1 on it, there is
a new wrinkle which must be related to the Web Server. If I log in there,
and choose ā€œuse the desktop appā€ a really crazy series of (I counted) 17
JackTrip application windows will open. You know how long it takes to
close 17 windows, including the 17 child windows ā€œyou want to updateā€¦ā€
and another dozen child windows saying ā€œDuh! blah blah blahā€¦ā€

If instead I run the app directly, it still seems to work, and then I can click
on video, and all seems to be normal, but since I am not connecting with
anyone, it will ā€˜close’ the studio. Still seems normal enough, until I try to
ā€œRejoinā€ and then I get the 17 new application windows. The green bar
along the upper right ā€œStarting JackTrip Studioā€ then it moves up a little
and another green ā€œStarting JackTrip Studioā€, it moves up a little, another
and another, until there are 17 windows open, and none of them work.

Hi PJ, these sound like different problems which are unrelated to the UR22 and the Yamaha USB driver that it uses. The ā€œGeneric ASIO driverā€ doesn’t work and is not supported. Please try uninstalling that. You should be able to download the correct drivers for UA devices from their website.

I have the correct UA driver installed and it works fine with all other apps.
I don’t have any Generic ASIO driver installed. What about the Web server?
When I click on ā€œUse the desktop appā€ from the video screen, it starts that
series of opening JackTrip apps over and over. The last time I tried this
I had to shut down the regular Zenbook with the 1.7.1 version and it said
ā€œclosing 72 JackTrip programsā€.

It sounds like you have a very unique situation that we are unlikely to make additional progress on within the context of an online forum. I’m happy to work with you 1:1 on this, and will reach out to schedule a time.
