Does JackTrip have any thing like Jamkazams “Search for open sessions” to browse for online studios that are open for others to pop on without being invited?
Hi @johndtomlinson2026, and thanks for your inquiry. Many JackTrippers are asking about Open Sessions, but at this time, one must be invited or invite others to a studio.
This method gives Studio Owners the option to decide who will have access to their studio for any given session and perhaps provides greater satisfaction for all participants.
There are security issues to consider when uninvited players enter a studio, and the responsibility for any unwanted activity is problematic.
That said, if you would like more information on how to create an event or announcement for an open studio where others can request an invitation, please let us know.
Thanks for your participation!
Synthia,
Yes, please could you step me through the options. Would JT radio be helpful?
JackTrip Radio was replaced by the ability to livestream and have the public link posted automatically on the JackTrip homepage for anyone to listen. Also, the latest public recordings are posted on JackTrip.com as well.
I saw that you posted an invitation on the Community Forum, so that’s a great start!
A few more ideas to expand your reach and perhaps entice others to join you:
-
If you are doing a public livestream, a link to it will be publicly visible on JackTrip.com for all to see without logging in.
-
All recordings which are marked “Public” will be publicly available on the JackTrip.com for anyone to see without logging in.
There are a couple of ways to get the attention of JackTrip members with the tools on your Studio homepage after logging in, as follows:
- On your Studio Homepage, there is a tab on the upper left side for “Events”, where you can create an event. Note that your new event will be made visible to the public on JackTrip.com for anyone to see, not just studio members. This should only be used to create PUBLIC broadcasts.
edited: the “Upload Banner Image” is simply a thumbnail next to your studio name.
- If you have email addresses of JackTrippers you would like to invite, you can do so by tapping the “Invite” button in the upper right corner of your Studio Homepage after logging into your account.
I hope this has been helpful. If others have suggestions please feel free to chime in.
If you have questions, feel free to ask anything. And do let us know your progress!
The ability to have open live sessions and more is coming soon (without the need to live stream or mess with invite links). Check out this product update for more info on how to get ready for it.
So how do I find an open session?
Mike says this feature is “coming soon”.
Good, the invite is only any good if you can get to know who to invite first else it’s just private servers with no one able to interact with each other.
Even a public chat could be handy to be able to get to know others who are onlien ready to jam, then we could create rooms to jump into with them and maybe leaving invites in the chat.
Maybe the ability to create groups/bands which then have servers which could be private or wiwth a click public.
But those in the group or band would be able to see the server online and join it with out invite.
Public Chats would be nice to have available on the homepage when a studio goes Public and wants people to join.
When a Studio is set to Public by the owner of that studio and then the owner of that studio starts up that studio it will appear towards the bottom of the JackTrip.com homepage and be clearly marked “Public”.
Then if the studio is up and running it will say “JOIN” and anyone can fire up JackTrip and join studios that are Public and have that JOIN button.
No need for invitations - just Jump On!
I jumped on the link there but they need to get certificates setup for the domain. Loads of hosts used to just sort it but are now charging for them. But it basically comes up saying page isn’t secure, same happens on one of my domains
and now I gotta get round to sorting it out, But a friend pointed me to a site you can do it free but is some setup involved.
I can’t remember which one is was but there is a few free ones about now, if the host allows it though,
Hiya again Synth, I see public’s but they show as recordings. Dont’ see a way to jump in them and on jacktip I just see my studio.
Clicking on a public room just shows the recorded video and some follow and share buttons but nothing to join.
sorry I think it will say “JOIN” if the studio is up and running. And
again, that is only after the studio owner has the visibility set to
Public.
So if those PUBLIC studios were up and running live it would say JOIN.
Try it and then refresh the page to see what it looks like on the
homepage. Please let me know when you want to do it and I will jump on
with you! I will be home around 6pm Pacific time and flexible over the
weekend.
cheers!
hmmm…I’ve never seen that certificate issue with jacktrip.com - @miked could you shed
some light on this?
I’ve never seen that either and it certainly should not happen. Could be that the web browsers’ certificates were out of date.
Might be worth having 1 or 2 open public servers so people can get to know each other then more would sub for their own.
Maybe limit servers to 6 or 8 peeps and others with cash would open up public servers.
Many do on Jamulus.
I’ll start one when I’m done watching this movie and I’m out in the studio.
30 mins is too short, 60 mins minimum is needed so a room can become established then others will be more inclined to pay to have their
own server.
We all judge a service on how active it is and this will only pull in the dedicated hardcore who who are specifically looking for such a situation.
Everything needs a Carrot on a stick, especially in a world where everything is so disposable and peeps move on like they’re swiping to the next video.
Site looks great though and it all seems to work fine except the 30 mins. That would need to be pre arranged with others to make use of a 30 min slot, so with no constant servers you’d be lucky for anyone to see
a public server on the site within the 30 mins.
There’s no pull atm to keep people constant.
Might work better allowing maybe up to 3 or 4 hours, this would get servers seen more, but then after a months trial and people and servers are more established possibly then reduce to 45 mins to 1 hour.
Just enough but not long enough.
the free trial for a month does not limit the length of time for
sessions - the 30-minute limit is just for when people want to jump on
without signing up for the free trial.
from what I remember they tried the open servers and they were not
effective. Also, it is important to consider that JackTrip is optimized
for uncompressed, low-latency WITH VIDEO - jamulus is compressed audio only.
it can be what you want it to be.
