JackTrip Virtual Studio Update 10/7/2022

What’s New?

  • Per-musician volume meters are now generally available!
  • Studios now display a visual indicator of your JackTrip Soundscapes performance
  • Set a “default join device” to streamline the time it takes for you to connect

Per-Musicians Volume Meters

We’re excited to launch per-musicians volume meters! This is available under the “Participants” tab for all Virtual Studio users connecting using the Desktop App or with a JackTrip Bridges on high quality.

Now you can figure out who’s to blame for all that background noise :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

meters

Soundscapes FX Meter

The “Soundscapes” tab of your studio now shows a small meter indicating the performance of your signal chain and overall studio experience. In order to optimize the quality of the audio, you’ll want to keep this as low (to the left) as possible, either by modifying or removing some of the links in your signal chain.

Default Join Device

A default join device enables you to bypass some of the extra button clicks it takes to connect to your studio. Change this to one of your JackTrip Bridges or the “Desktop App” so that the next time you click “Join”, it will automatically connect with this device if available. This option can be found in your profile settings under the “Default Device” option as shown below:

These are all helpful changes. Regarding the > Per-Musicians Volume Meters: The participants meters are showing up greyed out and not able to be controlled. Yes, the left panel shows the pretty colors, but the volume control doesn’t move. Is there something that needs adjustment? We are using the desktop app.

This release focused on introducing volume level meters across all JackTrip clients (bridge devices and desktop app). Volume controls are still currently only available for bridge devices. However, volume controls are coming soon to the desktop app as well.

@pbianculli 1.6.6 is now out, which adds volume controls and a mute button. And like the bridge devices, each person’s input volume and mute can be controlled by studio admins from the “Participants” tab.
