Introducing Green Rooms
Today we are introducing “Green Rooms!” In short, Green Rooms reduce the amount of time spent waiting for your studio session to get ready:
So that you have more time to interact and make music with people:
When available, the first few people to join a new studio session will start in a Green Room. These have most of the functionality of regular studio sessions, but with a few limitations:
- No recording or live streaming
- No soundscapes (only the default setting)
- Potentially, a smaller maximum number of people (5-10)
Green Rooms use the same locations (and have the same latency) as regular studio sessions, and you’ll know that you’ve joined one when you see a green border along the top.
When your studio session is ready, everyone who has joined the Green Room via web browser, bridge device, or JackTrip Desktop App (2.6.0 or later) will automatically be reconnected to it. This transition only takes a few seconds, and everyone will see a notice before it happens that looks like this:
After this transition, the green border will disappear and all of your studio’s functionality will be available.
Green Rooms are only available in certain locations, which currently includes the USA, Canada and Europe. Additionally, they are only available to paid subscribers on the Essential and Advanced plans. They may also not be available at certain times of peak activity in your region. When a Green Room is unavailable, you’ll just need to wait for the studio session to be ready (same as before).
We hope that this feature will lead to a lot less waiting and a lot more music making. Please let us know what you think!
WAV Format for Recordings
We’ve switched from FLAC to the more common WAV format for all audio recording files. While FLAC is an open standard supported by most audio applications, we discovered a few popular ones (such as Logic Pro) that don’t support it. WAV files are supported universally, so all new recordings made on JackTrip will now store audio using this format.
