We jam 2hrs weekly . For the last 4 weeks I lose my video connection of my band mate after 1 1/2 hours. I can see myself but not them. My band mate cannot see me.
My connection is pure fibre. What should I check?

Welcome @readski56 ! Sorry for the delay replying to your post. Did you figure it out?
The first thing that came to my mind was to check the Power Profile on your and your bandmate’s computers. I always set all of my computer and display Power Profile settings to “Never” sleep.
This is because when we are playing together there can be a long period of time with no cursor activity and that inactivity can trigger the computer and/or display to sleep.
Also, when running on battery power, there could be a setting in the Power Profile that puts the computer or the display to sleep after a certain amount of time.
I hope this helps. Please let us know what you think.
p.s. does the video come back after re-connecting?
Thanks for getting back to me Synthia. We jam every Thursday evening. We will check the power profile.
Yes the video does come back if we stop and restart the video selection in JackTrip. But it doesn’t last too long. I can see myself but not my bandmate. Bandmate cannot see me, but he sees himself.
I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks
Ken
You’re very welcome Ken. BTW: just want to clarify that the Power Profile is found in your computer settings, not the JackTrip settings.
Assuming you still have full audio? And just restarting the video brings it back?
Are you both on paid subscriptions? If one is on the Free plan it has a time limit.
Also you might check the video permission settings in the browser you are using.
Pinging @miked in case he has any suggestions.
Yes the Power Profile is in system settings on my MacBook air and I just changed it to never sleep.
Yes audio works fine
We both have active subscriptions
I will look for the video settings in my browser. I normally have my browsers off.
when you say you have your browsers off, what do you mean?
The video piece of JackTrip integrates browser technologies in order to display camera feeds so your default browser needs to be “on”.
Check your default browser’s “Site Permissions” and make sure they allow use of your camera with JackTrip.
We use jacktrip app. You recommend turning off all other applications. So i turn off safari and chrome.
I select FaceTime camera in jacktrip
Right but I think the default browser because the Jacktrip Desktop app that you are using integrates web technology to display the camera feeds from participants. So keep the default browser “on” and allow camera access in its privacy settings. Make sense?
ok, but that’s just your camera - JackTrip Desktop app then uses web technology to bring the camera feed into JackTrip.
Ok I will try this on Thursday evening
Thanks again Synthia for helping me.
looking forward to your follow up post! ![]()
and would suggest clearing the browser history (all time) just to be sure
JackTrip’s desktop app doesn’t use anything from your web browsers. There is no need to keep them open.
As for the video issue, the only thing I can think would cause this is if your bandwidth is limited and your are just hitting up against the edge of what your Internet connection can handle.
Thanks for your feedback Mike!
BTW: a web search said the following:
Yes, the JackTrip Desktop App (version 2.0 and later) utilizes web technology—specifically the Qt WebEngine—to manage the user interface and video feeds, even though it acts as a native application for audio.
Key details regarding the video technology:
Web-Based Video Processing: The desktop application incorporates a browser-based engine to handle video capture and display.
Camera Permission: Because it uses QtWebEngineProcess, camera permissions on Windows may be managed through browser-style settings rather than traditional desktop app permissions.
While the video component uses web technologies, the app is designed to keep the audio processing separate, offering lower latency than the browser-based Web App.
First bullet is accurate. Second is an AI hallucination.
Hi Synthia
Are camera issues continued last night. I can only see myself and my bandmate can only see his self. When we first started the session it worked great for about 20 minutes. We can restart the cameras by turning the off and back on in the Jacktrip menu. Are cameras again would work normal for about 20 minutes.
Last year are cameras worked fine. We stopped jamming in October and then started jamming again in February. We have had camera issues since February.
Not sure what to do. My browser was on last night.
When I select the camera in Jacktrip it only lets me select FaceTime Camera. Is that normal?
Hmm…well Mike thinks this issue is most likely a bandwidth limitation so a phone call to ask your ISP about this could provide clues.
The FaceTime camera is the computer’s built-in camera so if it is the only one connected, then yes, perfectly normal to select it in the JackTrip video settings.
I found some additional information online that is worth consideration, provided that as Mike suggested, AI is not making stuff up again ![]()
On Mac Catalina or later, Screen Time settings can restrict apps from using the camera for extended periods. Solution: System Settings > ScreenTime > Content & Privacy > App Restrictions; and ensure there are no time limits or restrictions on JackTrip’s usage of the camera.

Please keep us posted on your efforts. It is very much appreciated.
