Anybody have experience or feedback on using the OpenCore Legacy Patcher to update an old Mac? I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro that is no longer supported with OS updates and thought I would give it a go. Please share your experience or suggestions here.
I have a mid 2014 MacBook Pro Retina which would not install Sequoia, just got a stop sign

Now got Monterey installed and Jacktrip runs just like before and has updated to 2.7.1. WhatsApp desktop updates and runs again too.
I can only reboot with the OpenCore installer on USB drive attached, I have probably missed a step
Kudos @timsd ! Thanks for the update. The last step is when the OpenCore Patcher will put up a message asking if you want to install the works onto the internal HD so you don’t have to use the USB. So, if you go to the Disk Utility and click around it should throw up that option.
I would be interested in how JackTrip performs or any other apps that rely on fast processing.
This is turning out to be quite an adventure upgrading an unsupported Mac. First I was able to install the latest Sequoia 15.7, but it was s l o w and I learned that it needs a minimum of 8 gigs of Ram to run well and my Mac has only 4.
Apparently, Monterey will run ok on 4 so I am trying to create an OLP Monterey installer from Sequoia and will report back after that’s done.
I think the OpenCore project is fantastic especially in resurrecting unsupported hardware.
I have done that step several times but always have to insert the USB. Won’t be able to try it live with other singers until next week. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Yes, keeping old stuff going is great
Without the usb plugged in do you hold the option key while booting up and then first choose EFI then the hard drive ?
After doing that once it should do that sequence automatically next tiime
over the past week I’ve had quite an adventure with OpenCore Legacy
Patcher on my mid-2012 MBP with only 4GB of Ram.
First I got Sequoia up and running but as expected it was very slow, so
I re-installed Catalina, and then installed OpenCore Monterey on a
separate partition.
Monterey is running quite well, but is the last version of OSX with a
low minimum Ram of 4GB. And I still need to test it with JackTrip.
More soon!
I have installed a new battery which came with really good instructions and a tool kit, the old one was not charging at all. Now works well and tried it out with Jacktrip last evening. All seemed fine which is great!
We are a community choir of about 250 people, maybe 25 of us use Jacktrip once a week for SATB 4+ part harmony. That started in lockdown
Thanks for the tip!
