JackTrip's Support for Mac OS X

A lot of people ask about which versions of Mac OS X are supported by JackTrip. I’m pleased to report that JackTrip 2.5 works great on the latest release of Sequoia (15.2).

I would like to let everyone know about an upcoming change: the next release of JackTrip (2.6) will require macOS 12 (Monterey) or later. That means we will be removing support for:

  • 10.14 Mojave
  • 10.15 Catalina
  • 11 Big Sur

Apple dropped support for Big Sur over a year and a half ago.

Monterey was released over 3 years ago, and supports Mac hardware over ten years old.

It’s very unsafe to use unsupported operating systems because they are a prime target for hackers. Over time, known and unpatched vulnerabilities increase and this makes your computer increasingly susceptible to attacks.

Apple dropping support for an OS also means that more and more software vendors drop it as time passes. All software applications are bundles of other software, and so it becomes increasingly harder for all vendors to fix bugs. We’ve basically reached the point where it no longer makes sense for us to keep trying to support these older releases.

Please upgrade now if you can, ideally to the latest version of Sequoia. If for whatever reason you cannot, we expect that 2.5 will continue to work fine for the foreseeable future.
