What’s New?

  • Improved Audio Channel Selection
  • Higher Quality Audio for Poor Connections

  • Last Release for MacOS 10.14, 10.15 and 11

Improved Audio Channel Selection

This release improves channel selection for audio interfaces that have more than two input channels.

Switching to stereo previously required scrolling down through the list of all mono channels and finding the stereo channel pair that you wanted. Now you can just click “Stereo” and jump past all the mono channel selections. Switching between “Stereo”, “Mono” and “Mix to Mono” is now more seamless and automatically selects the most logical corresponding channels.

We also updated the list to allow selection of any two consecutive input channels. For example, you could previously only select “1 & 2”, “3 & 4”, “5 & 6”, etc. Now you also have the ability to select any stereo channel pairs in between: “2 & 3” and “4 & 5”.

Higher Quality Audio for Poor Connections

The “Auto” setting for the “Audio Quality” slider has been updated to improve support for poor quality Internet connections. When necessary, the “Auto” setting will now allow more latency to be added to improve audio quality.

If it seems that “Auto” is now adding more latency than you would like, set a fixed value instead which matches your preferred balance between latency and quality. We recommend doing this under your studio’s sound settings, and having everyone leave “Use Studio settings” checked in their app.

Required Upgrade for Upcoming Features

For the past several months, we’ve been cooking a few exciting new features that we hope to launch within a few weeks. Upgrading to JackTrip 2.6 will be required to take advantage of them. Although older releases may continue to work, your experience will be degraded if you do not upgrade to 2.6.

Last Release for Mac OSX 10.14, 10.15 and 11

In January, we announced our intention to end support for older releases of MacOS:

  • 10.14 Mojave
  • 10.15 Catalina
  • 11 Big Sur

Apple discontinued support for these releases quite a while ago, and it is no longer feasible for us to continue supporting them.

The next release of the JackTrip App (2.7) will require MacOS 12 or later. Although we expect 2.6 will continue to work OK for some time, no new features will be made available for these older releases of MacOS.

(At this time, we do not expect to have to change our requirements for Windows or Linux)
