I run weekly JackTrip jam sessions with a few ukulele friends, and sometimes I add my WARBL MIDI wind controller to emulate an Irish whistle. Until recently, we learned songs by playing Apple Music or YouTube from my iPhone speaker into the mic — not ideal.
I wanted a cleaner setup that could feed several audio sources straight into JackTrip from my iMac. GarageBand and Waveform 13 didn’t work, but SoundDesk turned out to be perfect.
With SoundDesk, I can mix my five audio inputs and send them right to JackTrip: my USB mic, the Celtic Sounds MIDI app for the WARBL, Chrome and Apple Music for reference tracks, and the Vetro metronome. Both Sforzando and Safari were unreliable for my workflow.
Active audio sources routed through SoundDesk:
-
External USB mic (vocals/ukulele)
-
Celtic Sounds (WARBL MIDI module)
-
Chrome (YouTube playback)
-
Apple Music
-
Vetro metronome
