# What does the Connection time displayed in the app mean?

The app displays a connection time. Is this the ping time to the server or does it include other parts of the overall connection path time? I’m trying to compare the JackTrip time display to what I see using Jamulus which displays both ping time and total delay (not sure how they calculate that). In both cases, I am using a server location with similar distances. For Jamulus, I an using a server provided by Melomax. Thanks.

Mike Dickey @miked [wrote an interesting article](https://community.jacktrip.org/t/comparing-latency-jacktrip-vs-zoom-vs-google/679) here a while back that might answer your questions.

There have been lots of changes to the interface so I am not sure if all of the information in that article still applies, but hopefully Mike can answer your questions about the display of the JackTrip connection time more directly.

Hi @jenorman1, JackTrip currently only reports the network ping (round trip) time. Given that you have experience hosting a Jamulus server, you may be interested in hosting your own JackTrip studio server? [This article](https://support.jacktrip.com/unmanaged-studio) provides step by step instructions. Note that JackTrip’s studios support Jamulus as well! You can even mix and match with some people using Jamulus while others use JackTrip.
